Spelling Methods

RPM

Rapid Prompting Method (RPM), was developed by a parent of a child with autism in order to teach communication through a system of quickly delivered prompts, meant to match the rate at which a student might engage in stereotypic behaviors. Use the link below to learn more about RPM from Soma, the inventor.

S2c

Spelling to Communicate (S2C™) empowers non-speakers to overcome communication barriers posed by traditional oral communication by pointing to letters on a board as an alternative means of communication. This innovative method promotes synchrony between cognitive and motor systems. Use the link below to learn more about S2C from the International Assocation for Spelling as Communication.

Facilitated communication

Facilitated communication is based on the idea that autistic people want to communicate. Movement difficulties stop them from being able to speak or independently use tools like typewriters or storyboards to communicate. When their arms are supported, they can use these tools.
